The Rail Accident Investigation Unit (RAIU) has recommended that Iarnród Éireann “move, close or alter” a level crossing where two accidents have occurred in the past eight years. This is just one of a number of recommendations made by the RAIU in its report into an incident at a level crossing at Cratloe on June 20, 2012.

A train travelling from Limerick to Galway collided with a tractor at the level crossing. However, the train driver was unaware of the collision and continued to the next station. The tractor driver, though shocked, was uninjured.
