ATTICS, presses and drawers in homes across Limerick could contain thousands of euros worth of forgotten treasures.
That’s according to renowned antiques dealer George Stacpoole who is holding an afternoon of free valuations on Sunday June 30 at his shop in Adare as part of the village’s Weekend of Welcomes.
Mr Stacpoole, who is President of the Irish Antique Dealers Association, said people often don’t realise the monetary value of things they have hidden away.
“Many families – including my own – have lived in Limerick for centuries and items of significant family value have been passed down from generation to generation, many of which have been consigned to the attic.
“We thought it would be interesting to see how much of that history we could uncover during the Adare Weekend of Welcomes. Some of the most unlikely things can hold serious value depending on their condition and how rare they are. Many of us have old toys, paintings and prints, jewellery, books and other collectables which we hold on to because they have been part of the family for a long time. The reality is that they could be worth more than their sentimental value.”
If you have an item which you think might be of value, bring it along for a free valuation at George Stacpoole Antiques, Main Street, Adare between 12 noon and 3pm on June 30.
