IT’S BACK. The Pig ‘n’ Porter festival returns to Old Crescent RFC for the 12th year.
More than 3,000 people are expected to attend this year’s famous festival which will take place over two days on July 12-13.
The event will see 120 tag rugby teams from across Ireland and Europe compete at an event that will combine sport, food and live music in Ireland’s rugby capital.
This year’s festival was launched today by Leinster and Ireland scrum half Eoin Reddan, who did his best impression of one of the event’s famous pigs-on-a-spit. The Pig n’ Porter is sponsored by Heinz Tomato Ketchup and kindly supported by Fáilte Ireland as part of The Gathering 2013.
This year’s festival kicks off on Friday, July 12 when men’s, women’s and mixed tag sides from Ireland and Great Britain will take part in a three-match series under lights at Old Crescent RFC from 7.30pm.
The players, who will be representing Ireland, have been painstakingly scouted from across the country’s tag venues, with players from Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Kildare getting the chance to pull on the green jersey.
On Saturday, July 13 the main Pig n’ Porter tag rugby festival will see teams of all different grades competing for thousands of euro in prizes. The day will also see the famous Pig n’ Porter BBQ, bouncy castles, a bucking bronco and other family entertainment during the day. That night a 9,000 square foot marquee will host fantastic live music and a late disco.
Team registration is currently live through the ITRA website www.tagrugby.ie. Regular updates and information on competitions are available on the Pig n’ Porter’s facebook page www.facebook.com/pignporter. For more information on the Pig n’ Porter festival please visit www.pignporter.com
