‘THE Three Sopranos Summer Gala’ is coming our way with a UCH date booked for Thursday June 6.
Irish sopranos Celine Byrne, Regina Nathan and Cara O’Sullivan are touring with RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra in a novel combination of diva(s) and orchestra in tandem with RTE’s ‘Sing with the Sopranos’ search. It will be conducted by John Finucane and here in Limerick, presented by Kathryn Thomas
The Sing with the Sopranos Search links with John Murray Show listeners to RTE Radio I who are inspiring singers. A handful get the chance to sing ‘O Sole Mio’ live on stage in this tour, individually with Celine, Regina and Cara, romanced by the sounds of the RTE NSO.
The candidate for the Limerick concert hall is Kildimo man, Garda Sean O’Mahony (34), now stationed in Athy and who was picked for the concert. Sean is being mentored for the occasion by the Clare based Regina Nathan, who has often appeared at UCH.
Naturally, Sean is delighted with his “fantastic opportunity to sing on stage” in such acclaimed company.
The programme is extensive, opening with Glinka’s ‘Overture Rusian and Lyudmila’ and all three sopranos singing Verdi’s ‘Sempre Libera’ from ‘La Traviata’. Puccini, Rossini, Chapentier, Wallace, Delibes, Humperdinck and Mozart inform the few hours and of course, di Capua’s ‘O Sole Mio’ with all three sopranos and Mr O’Mahony.
Book for Thursday June 6′s major show on www.uch.ie or directly through box office.
