33 Limerick schools go Green

A TOTAL of 33 schools from Limerick will receive Green Flag Certifiication at an awards ceremony today (May 16)

Green-Schools (known internationally as Eco-Schools), is an international environmental management education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole-school action for the environment, and is operating in over 50 countries around the world.

Today more than 2,500 Irish schools are flying the internationally recognised Green Flag.

Schools from across the Limerick County Council area will attend a ceremony in the Silver Springs Moran Hotel in Cork today.  Six schools will be awarded their first Green Flag while 27 schools will renew their Green Flag.

The programme is coordinated in Ireland by An Taisce, operated in partnership with Local Authorities and is supported by the Department of Environment, Community & Local Government, Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht, National Transport Authority, NPWS and Trócaire. Green-Schools Ireland is sponsored by Repak and the Wrigley Company Limited.
