6-5-13 Peaks for Pauline

A GROUP of Limerick climbers will scale the highest peaks in each province of Ireland in just 48 hours to raise money for the Milford Hospice.

Don Caulfield (30) from Pallaskenry was inspired to do the challenge after his aunt Pauline Keyes died of cancer in November.

The group, whose collective journey will be over 800 miles in just two days, will climb a total of 3,626 metres taking in Mweelrea in Mayo, Slieve Donard in Down, Lugnaquilla in Wicklow and Carrauntoohill in Kerry.

Don, a youth worker in Moyross, said the Milford Care Centre were amazing with Pauline. “She died two days after her 40th birthday after just eight weeks of aggressive cancer. Milford couldn’t have been better. They even organisied a birthday celebration for her and were so accommodating when it came to visitors,” he said.

The group will climb to the summits on Saturday and Sunday May 18 and 19. To donate see www.mycharity.ie/event/peaksforpauline/
