LIT students plan treats of All Sorts

BALLROOM dancing, traditional music and sharing stories over pots of tea – not the typical activities of third level students in Limerick, but for a group from LIT, it’s a display of their social responsibility as they entertain the elderly and give them treats of “All Sorts”.  Students attached to the Applied Event Management class are in the process of planning such a fun filled day for Limerick’s elderly in an effort to brighten up the “dark days of winter by generating spring-time smiles”. The team around the event says that; “Older people, who are living in care, are invited for an afternoon of entertainment to demonstrate that we as a community appreciate them and their contribution to Limerick City over the years.”

The title “All Sorts” was chosen as it highlighted each person’s unique journey through life. It also ties in with the memories of the famous sweets which in a quirky twist, will also be incorporated into the theme on the day.

Joanne O’Meara says, “Limerick Institute of Technology was chosen as the venue for this event as it offers the chance to combine the characters of the future with the characters of the past.”

“The event is non-profit and kindly sponsored by Bluebird Care. Eddie and the team consistently deliver the level of care that we would expect for our own elderly relatives. That way we know we have got it right. Masterchefs Hospitality are also involved.”

The event offers those who cannot afford many senior citizen activities a chance to socialise in the community.

The vision of the students is to inspire and encourage others to come on board in creating awareness of the importance of older people in society.

“All Sorts” takes place on Thursday 21st February from 2.30-5.30 in the Aula Maxima at Limerick Institute of Technology.
