LIMERICK IT and Mary Immaculate College joined neighbours UL in the quarter-finals of the Fitzgibbon Cup after victories in their respective matches today.
LIT needed to beat DCU to advance and they managed it with little fuss, racking up a comprehensive 3-23 to 0-10 win in Moylish.
Davy Fitzgerald’s team will face WIT in the quarter-finals, throwing up a repeat of the epic final of 2008, which LIT lost after two periods of extra time.
Mary Immaculate College kept their impressive run of form going as they recorded a 2-14 to 1-8 win away to GMIT, the host college for the Fitzgibbon finals on March 1/2.
After draws in their first two games, the win was enough to secure Mary I a quarter-final place away to DIT, who have already faced Limerick opposition in this year’s Fitzgibbon Cup.
They defeated UL last week in Group D, a result which left the 2011 winners having to settle for second place. UL will travel to face UCD in the last eight. The other quarter-final is a Cork derby between UCC and CIT, who met in last year’s thrilling final at the Mardyke.
All three Limerick teams will play their quarter-final matches next week, with the games fixed for Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20.
