Limerick 1-6 Cork 1-11

Limerick’s minor camogie team put in a spirited performance in the Munster A semi-final in Boher on Saturday, despite ending up on the wrong side of a five-point defeat to Cork.

It was a thrilling encounter which could have gone either way until the last quarter when Cork opened up what proved to be a decisive lead.

Cork opened the scoring with a point from play which was quickly cancelled out by Limerick centre back and captain Rebecca Delee. Limerick then went into the lead with a point from play from corner forward Caoimhe Costello, who captained last year’s under 16 side. She also scored the next point from a free to put Limerick 0-3 to 0-1 ahead.

In what was to be the pattern of the day Cork then leveled with two points, the first from a free and the second from play, before Limerick retook the lead with a brilliant hand-passed goal from Caoimhe Costello. Cork replied with a point before half-time, leaving Limerick ahead at the break by 1-3 to 0-4.

The second half started well for Limerick with a point from a free from Caoimhe Costello to take her personal tally to 1-3 but Cork then hit a purple patch and scored five points without reply (three from play and two frees)

Limerick responded well and despite an onslaught on the Cork goal they were unlucky not to register a score until wing forward and vice captain Martina McMahon hit two points to level the game.  However these were to be Limerick’s last scores of the game despite a penalty which Cork’s goalie saved.

Cork then broke Limerick’s hearts with a goal and in the end added two more points from frees, leaving the final score Cork 1-11 Limerick 1-6.
