Cliona Park residents all set for big move

THE Limerick Regeneration Office is preparing to welcome its first residents into the newly-built Cliona Park development in Moyross. The incoming tenants this week attended a pre-residence course in The Strand Hotel to help them settle in to their new homes and give them the opportunity to meet their new neighbours.

Michael O’Kelly, administration officer with the Limerick Regeneration Office said they had 64 applicants for the houses and all the residents are from the area. “There’s a good buzz around the area; the residents had been waiting for this a long time and for a while they thought it wouldn’t happen but now they’re saying it’s worth the wait”, he said.

Mr O’Kelly added that the emphasis of the regeneration programme was now on rebuilding and providing infrastructure within the areas rather than relocating residents,

The 34-unit Cliona Park development, built at a cost of €4.6 million, comprises 21 apartments and 13 houses.

It is expected that the residents will receive the keys to their new homes next week.

Since the establishment of the regeneration programme in 2007, 900 houses have been demolished and over 1,000 residents have been relocated from regeneration areas at a cost of over €100 million.
