Court tributes to former county registrar

GLOWING tributes were led this week by Judge Carroll Moran at Limerick Circuit Court, to mark the passing of former county registrar Brian Geary, whom he described as “a man of the old school, who performed his duties to the highest standards.”
Serving as county registrar from 1972 to 2000, Brian Geary will be held with the “fondest of memories” and a man who lived by the old adage of there being “no substitute for good manners”.

Judge Moran said that Mr Geary, who died earlier this week at the age of 82, maintained the “best values in both his personal and professional life”.
“He was always helpful and especially to young practitioners, with his knowledge and time, while he carried out his duties”.
Due to his temperament and character, Judge Carroll Moran said that Mr Geary was a precise and consistent man who will be sadly missed by colleagues at the courts, but more so, by his widow, Mary; his son and daughter, David and Mary.
John O’Sullivan, a senior member of the bar on the South West Circuit, said that Brian O’Geara would be held with the greatest of “respect and affection”. He worked, he said, with “dignity, civility and reticence”.
“He was erudite and expansive in sharing his knowledge and always very helpful.”
Having trained and practised as a solicitor, much of the work done by Mr Geary was  carried out behind the scenes but as county registrar, he was integral to the running of the circuit court system with Judge Moran saying he was the “most important person in the court”.
Mr Geary’s remains reposed at Milford Hospice and he was laid to rest at Mt St Oliver Cemetery after Requiem Mass  at St Joseph’s Church, O’Connell Avenue last Tuesday.
