The Limerick Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LSPCA) has had some unusual requests for assistance over the years but few to surpass a call received last Wednesday from an elderly gentleman in the Limerick area reporting a snake in his shed. The LSPCA sent their inspector to investigate the situation, and also contact acted Dublin Zoo to find out some information on the issue. The LSPCA were advised by the Zoo that the snake could be in hibernation due to the cold weather, or there was also the possibility that he could be dead.
The inspector brought the snake to Underwater World in the Castletroy Shopping Centre, where the owner Kevin Fitzgerald assessed the snake to be dead and also surmised that it could have being trying to escape the cold weather when he went in to the man’s shed.
The snake was identified as a non-poisonous American Corn Snake.
Chairperson of the LSPCA Geraldine Nardonne said it was an unusual request but one they were delighted to deal with, and was she was pleased that the issue was resolved with the help of Dublin Zoo and Underwater World at the Castletroy Shopping centre.
