Jobs hope from HMV sale talks

THE receiver appointed to HMV in Ireland, David Carson of Deloitte, has told Limerick TD Kieran O’Donnell that he is in “active discussions” on the sale of the business as a going concern. “David Carson of Deloitte, has confirmed to me directly today that he is in active discussions on the sale the HMV business in Ireland as a going concern”, Deputy O’Donnell revealed to The Limerick Post on Tuesday night. “I asked him to make every effort to ensure that the two Limerick stores at Cruises Street and the Cresent Shopping Centre are included in any such sale.

“It is my top priority in all of this to keep people’s jobs in place and that if the Limerick stores are sold as part of a going concern, the 30 staff will preserve their jobs under a transfer of undertaking as part of the sale.  I impressed upon the receiver the absolute importance of this happening.
“Based on my latest discussions with David Carson, it is clear that the prospect of selling the business as a going concern is very much being pursued.  I will continue to do everything in my power to help secure this outcome.
“Since speaking with the receiver, I have been in contact with the HMV staff in Limerick, and I know they would be very supportive of a sale of the Limerick stores as part of a going concern.  It would be the best result for them after the turmoil they have experienced.
“I have worked very hard with the Limerick HMV staff over the past number of days to ensure that they are paid monies due to them.  Their perseverance and professional approach paid off on Saturday evening when we were able to come to an agreement with the receiver that allowed the workers to end their sit-in.
“Under the agreement we brokered, monies owed to them are due to be paid this coming Friday.  The HMV staff in Limerick are a superb group of people to work with, and I wish to compliment them.  I am continuing to work with them, and will remain doing so.
“I am also continuing to support the receiver in his efforts to sell the business as a going concern.  I am hopeful that a positive resolution can be reached for the Limerick HMV stores and the 30 staff”, Deputy O’Donnell concluded.
