A TOTAL 1,300 people, including members of the Irish amputee soccer team, turned out at UL last Sunday for the Milford hospice 10km run/walk.
John Shanahan from Dundrum was the fastest male coming in at 34:55 and Angela McCann from Clonmel AC came first in the female category at 37 minutes 45 seconds. Three members of the Irish amputee soccer team, each missing a leg, joined other athletes in their preparation for Guinness Book of Records challenge in May.
Simon Baker from Castletroy, Patrick Hickey from Pallasgreen, and Diarmuid Devanney from Six Mile Bridge completed the 10km run in 1hr, 34 mins, 52 seconds.
They hope to enter the Guinness Book of Records as the quickest four-man amputee relay team to complete a marathon on crutches.
