LIMERICK’S footballers had a dramatic McGrath Cup win over Clare on Sunday while the hurlers and under 21 footballers were also in action as preparations for 2013 continue for the county’s GAA teams.

Six points in extra time put Limerick through to the McGrath Cup semi-final and a meeting next weekend with Kerry in Killarney.
Limerick trailed the Banner by five points with just two minutes of normal time remaining but a strong finish left the teams at 2-10 apiece and extra time was warranted. The predatory instincts of Derry O’Connor and Ian Ryan tipped the scales in Limerick’s favour in extra time.

Limerick senior hurlers took to the field in LIT last Saturday evening in their second challenge game in six days against Davy Fitzgerald’S Clare side in front of a large crowd for a challenge game.
Limerick were 2-11 to 0-7 down at half-time and were playing catch-up throughout the second half, with the Banner running out six-point winners.

Limerick referee Michael O’Connor has been appointed to referee the Waterford Crystal preliminary round game between Kerry and IT Tralee in Abbeydorney Co. Kerry, this Sunday.

Limerick under 21 footballers continued their preparations by playing Clare in a challenge game in UL on Friday night. This game ended up with Clare winning by five points.

Munster Primary Schools Committee
Congratulations to Limerick’s Joe Lyons who was elected chairman of Munster Primary Schools Committee last Thursday evening. Joe is very well known for the work that he and his joint editor Ciarán Crowe put in for the Limerick GAA youth magazine ‘Green & White’. He takes over from Tipperary’s Tim O Byrne and is joined by another Limerick man on the board as Br. James Dormer was re-elected as secretary of the committee for the coming year.
Friends of Limerick Football AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the ‘Friends of Limerick Football’ fundraising committee will take place on Wednesday January 16 in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale at 7.30pm. The main purpose of this committee is to raise funds to assist the County Board in funding the County’s underage football development squads, as well as other football development projects and county teams. Secretary Collette O’Grady has requested that a representative from each Limerick club could attend.
