SKY SPORTS has updated its award-winning iPad app to include on-screen analysis technology used during live coverage.
This means that users of the app can access some of the technology used by Ed Chamberlain and Gary Neville on Monday Night Football for certain Premier League fixtures.
Among the new features are average formation maps which track changes in teams’ formations throughout the match, player touch maps which track how often a player touches the ball in a match, and an archive for comparing teams and players.
The average formation map and player touch map both include an adjustable timeline, allowing users to pinpoint data to a specific time frame within the match, and Sky Bet is also integrated for any users wishing to have a flutter during a match.
Sky Sports analyst Gary Neville said: “Since joining Sky Sports this technology has allowed me to get a greater insight into a match. Now Sky Sports subscribers can use the data I have at my fingertips, giving them the story behind the result.”
David Gibbs, Director of Sky Sports Digital Media, has promised further enhancements to the app in the months ahead.
“We know that Sky Sports customers really enjoy the data that Ford Monday Night Football uses so we’ve decided to put this in the hands of the fans themselves. In the coming months, we’ll have even more updates as we continue to innovate for our customers so that Sky households can enjoy even more from the TV they love,” he said.
The Sky Sports iPad app was named Tablet App of the Year by Stuff magazine for its additional live video feeds, customisable split screen, race highlights, social networking feeds and live race data.
