A LIMERICK motorist had a parking ticket dismissed by a District Court judge as a gesture of thanks for highlighting a “deceiving” parking sign on Mulgrave Street in the city centre
The motorist who, after having a drink while visiting his friend on Rossa Avenue, decided to leave his car overnight on Mulgrave Street in an area he thought was designated as a paid for parking zone from 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.
The court heard that the motorist parked his car overnight on Mulgrave Street on a Sunday night after having a drink while visiting a friend. He was aware that the area became a paid for parking zone on Monday morning at 9.30. However upon returning to his car shortly after 8.30 am, he found he had been issued with a parking ticket.
The traffic warden said that the ticket issued at 8.20am as the car was parked in a bus lane. The motorist stated that he parked under the sign that indicated it was a parking area and produced photographic evidence to that effect.
The warden conceded that the signs were “deceiving”.
Dismissing the parking ticket, Judge Eugene O’Kelly thanked the motorist for bringing the issue to the notice of the relevant and said he hoped they would do something about it.
