Limerick GAA teams back in action

LIMERICK’S senior hurling and football teams played their first games of 2013 last weekend, with the Limerick under-21 footballers also in action, as well as Limerick IT footballers in the McGrath Cup.

 

Senior hurlers

 

The Limerick hurlers took on UL in a challenge match at the university on Saturday, with UL winning 1-20 to 0-16.

Adare’s John Fitzgibbon scored 0-4 for UL, with Thomas Ryan of South Liberties registering 0-2.

 

Senior footballers

The Limerick footballers defeated UL on a score of 1-11 to 1-9 in a challenge match at St Patrick’s Field last Saturday.

Under-21 footballers

Tom McGlinchey’s charges travelled to Thurles to face Tipperary on Sunday, with the Premier County running out winners by 3-9 to 1-7.

McGrath Cup

Limerick IT suffered a comprehensive 1-20 to 1-2 defeat against Clare in the McGrath Cup at Mitown Malbay in Sunday, in what was Mick O’Dwyer’s first game in charge of the Banner County.

There were five Limerick players in the LIT team: goalkeeper James Brouder (Mountcollins), corner-back Shane Considine (St Patrick’s), midfield goalscorer Tommy McCarthy (Mountcollins), corner-forward Stephen Behan (Fr Casey’s) and full-forward Tommy Griffin (Fr Casey’s).

Brian Bourke of Na Piarsaigh was sub goalie for LIT, who are managed by Pat Galvin from Kildimo/Pallaskenry, while Eddie O Sullivan of Blackrock is the GAA Development Officer with LIT.

Clare now advance to a fixture against Limerick in the next round, with the game taking place in Foynes at 2pm next Sunday.
