FOR some years now these pages has been touting the wares of Dublin band Little Green Cars. The band has appeared on the BBC Sound of 2013 longlist of 15 acts alongside fellow Irish rockers Kodaline. The winners of the Sound of 2013 award will be announced at the weekend. The band recently re-released a previous single ‘The John Wayne’. Now signed to Island Records and Glassnote Records (the US home of Mumford & Sons and Temper Trap), Little Green Cars have their debut album ‘Absolute Zero’ in the can and ready for release early 2013.
The album was produced by Markus Dravs, producer for Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs and Mumford’s Babel. Listening to The John Wayne, the new recording has done wonders for what is a great song anyway, the musicianship is tight revealing ‘The John Wayne’ in all its epic glory.
Talking to Little Green Cars’ manager Daniel Ryan, (former member of The Thrills), said, “‘The John Wayne’ was re-recorded because the band had released it as a limited single with ‘Young and Lost Club’ as a one off. They always planned to do another version further down the line. Markus Dravs has produced the whole album. Anything the band had recorded before working with Markus were demos they had made in their rehearsal space with the exception of the ‘Young and Lost’ single which was produced by David Kosten.”
“Markus has made some of the band’s favourite albums i.e. Arcade Fire and the Maccabees. He was always their first choice. He’s such an experience producer coming from his background with Brian Eno and working with Coldplay.
“They really didn’t want to work with anybody else once he expressed his interest. They worked very seamlessly together, he seemed to be able to help them achieve what they wanted to do, and at the same time they were able to work some songs up in the studio with him, which was a new experience for the band.
“It was their first time having extended time in the studio together.”
The new video filmed at Goulding Summerhouse in Wicklow has the widescreen wow-factor to match the song. Little Green Cars formed five years ago, are just out of their teens and have picked up some very positive reviews Stateside since appearing at New York’s CMJ music showcase.
‘The John Wayne’ has been released as a single in the US and the UK. The album will come along in the Spring – release date has not been scheduled yet. The band is signed to Glassnote in the US for a worldwide deal. The album will be released on Island Records in the UK and you will hear a lot more from Little Green Cars in 2013.
