IRELAND South MEP Sean Kelly has advised that Ireland needs to increase its technological capabilities in order to keep up with the digital age.
Among the measures suggested by Mr Kelly are improving internet and broadband accessibility and ensuring a widespread knowledge and e-skills base among Irish citizens. The Fine Gael MEP quoted figures from an Amarach Research survey which found that Ireland’s digital sector could boost the economy by €6 billion by 2016 and could create up to 18,000 jobs.
He commented: “It is essential that all Irish businesses have an established online presence detailing their products and services on an advertising and sales basis. To compete with other global businesses online, Irish companies need reliable, fast internet connections or will be left behind.”
