Shannon Airport received a major boost on Wednesday with confirmation that United Airlines is to operate a new service to Chicago from next summer. The new route will be in addition to the hugely successful daily service to Newark that United operate on a year round basis at Shannon. It is estimated that the Chicago service will generate an additional 20,000 passengers through the airport next year and increase visitor numbers into the West of Ireland from this strong Irish tourism market.
