Limerick FC confirmed for Thomond Park move

-

LIMERICK FC will make their long-awaited return to Premier Division football on Friday March 8 with a home fixture against Munster rivals Cork City. With the official Airtricity League fixture list scheduling the game for Thomond Park, the Blues can expect to draw a large crowd for their first top flight fixture since 1994.

Speculation about where Limerick’s home games would be played continued right up until the fixtures were released, with no formal announcement being made beforehand. A week later Limerick travel to Drogheda and then they host UCD before a trip to defending champions Sligo Rovers on either March 23 or 24. The Blues’ following four home games are all against high-profile Dublin opposition, with St Pat’s visiting Thomond Park on March 30 and Shamrock Rovers coming to town three days later.

Bohemians then travel to Limerick on April 16 and Shelbourne make the trip south on April 26.

The second ’round’ of games begins in early May with an away match against Cork City at Turners’ Cross, fixed for May 6 or 7.

Holders Sligo will have one trip to Shannonside in the 2013 season when they travel to Limerick on May 24 and the Blues’ last game before the mid-season break sees them travel to Tallaght to take on Shamrock Rovers on June 14.

Limerick’s first match after the break is a home game against Dundalk on June 28.

The third and final Munster derby of the season is scheduled for the August bank holiday weekend, with Cork City coming to Thomond Park on Friday the 2nd.

Limerick will finish the regular season with a home game against Shelbourne on October 18 and a long trip to Derry City a week later.
