WORK on a new playground adjacent to the Crescent Shopping Centre is expected to get underway in the new year, according to Limerick County Council. It is expected that the long-awaited playground in Dooradoyle will be ready for children to play in by summertime. Limerick City TD Kieran O’Donnell explained: “The Council has informed me that discussions in respect of the provision of a playground next store to the Crescent Shopping Centre are proceeding well, and that it is expected children will be playing in the new playground in the summer.”
“This playground has long been awaited and I very much welcome the news. It’s really great for the people living in the area. The playground is an essential amenity for families, particularly given the massive growth in population over the last number of years. People in the area have been in touch with me in relation to this”, he said.
Deputy O’Donnell added that there is also “a clear need” for a neighbourhood park in the Dooradoyle/Raheen/Mungret area.
“Such a neighbourhood park would enhance the lives of people living in the area. Like the children’s playground, it is long overdue”, he concluded.
