Dublin 4-piece Delorentos embark on an Irish winter tour this week starting in Limerick. The band were one of the highlights of this year’s Electric Picnic festival and made serious waves and many friends at European Festivals this summer including Germany, Holland and most of the main Spanish festivals. Delorentos’ recent, self-released and third top 20 album, Little Sparks, saw them set up one day pop-up shops throughout the country including Limerick in disused spaces to promote the record.
When Limerick Post met guitarist Kieran McGuinness preparations were well underway for the ‘Bullet in a Gun’ Tour. “We’re really excited to bring its warm glow to Ireland for the month of December and we’re looking forward to some truly memorable nights”.
‘Bullet in a Gun‘ is the newest single from Little Sparks. The video for the song was originally recorded as a one take demo in the back streets of Madrid and has become one of the highlights of a Delorentos live show.
The video appeared in the summer of 2011 and was a very promising indicator of the quality that was to come from the Dublin quartet. The video has since gathered over 15,000 views. Kieran says, “The video version is just the song stripped right back down to its basics. It was a promotional video in Spain for a radio station, we decided to do one of the songs we were working on, we didn’t have the song really finished, just clapped on our guitar cases and sang, the song has taken on a life of its own. It has got a lot of hits and views and it was a good intro to the album.”
In their career Delorentos were in the frontline of the changes in the music business, record company deals fell through, their distribution company went bust and for a few months in 2008 the group had called it a day but now in 2012 the band has gone on to make their best album yet in Little Sparks.
Kieran comments, “It’s a different world we live in today. I think the most important thing is that we decided that we wanted to focus on the creativity and the best thing about being a musician which is the independence and the voice that you have. We wrote songs that said something about us, everything we did around the album from doing an acoustic tour to writing a magazine (which accompanied the Little Sparks teaser EP) to doing the pop-up shops. We decided to do all of that ourselves and be as creative as possible.”
The band kick off the Irish tour in Limerick and have been working very hard on their live show and indeed remember their last show in the city as one of the band’s all time favourites.
Little Sparks is out now and Delorentos play Dolan’s this Friday December 7.
