GARDAI are investigating after a girl claimed she was raped in the car park of the Crescent Shopping Centre. The sexual attack on the girl, aged 14, is alleged to have happened on Monday, November 26. A Garda spokesman confirmed that a uniformed unit attached to Roxboro Road Garda station, were investigating the matter. “I know a complaint has been made. It is been pursued by a uniformed unit,” the Garda added. The girl made a complaint to gardai shortly after the alleged incident.
When she is deemed fit she is expected to bake a formal statement to detectives.
She has alleged that she was raped by one of two men, who befriended her in the Crescent Shopping Centre, located on the south side of Limerick City.
Gardai are continuing to try to identify the two men, who are alleged to have taken the girl to a parked van where the savage sexual assault occurred.
It’s believed the two suspects are from Limerick.
Gardai are searching through hours of video footage from security cameras taken inside and outside of the shopping complex.
The alleged victim is said to have been in the shopping centre with friends when they met two young men who are believed to be in their early 20s.
The girl has been medically examined at a sexual assault unit.
Gardai said they are satisfied the alleged incident is not connected to recent reports in Limerick of suspicious approaches to children by both men and women.
