IN early 2012, singer-songwriter Brendan Markham, of The Driven, began working on original material in Limerick’s Bishop’s Palace recording studios with Karol Drea on drums and Colin Bartley, ex. Walter Mitty, on bass. They soon became a 4-piece band with the addition of another songwriter Ross Brennan on keyboards/guitar.
At this point the band still had no name. However while trying to raise money to finance their first recording session they received a “hot tip” on a JP O’Brien horse called ‘Parliament Square’ running in a Tipperary race. According to the band, “the penniless Markham and Brennan threw in their last €10 each, the horse won and the winnings secured the recording session and the new band had a name.”
Parliament Square will be releasing their debut single ‘Forest Fire’ with a live performance in Cobblestone Joes on Ellen St. on Thursday November 22. The accompanying video, produced by Shane Serrano, will be screened beforehand.
