THE end of year party for Limerick Jazz Society’s improvisation class take place Upstairs in Dolan’s on Wednesday 5 next, 8pm. Always a fast-moving gig of multiple professional and student ensembles playing back to back, it’s made more lovely by the presence of accomplished vocalists. Laura Hilska, Louise Kernan and Conor J Ryan sang last time ’round – lucky us. Junior musicians open the night, always led by career musicians such as John Daly and bassist Peter Heneghan, followed by Beginner Adult group and those with increasing experience/ sophistication.
Other top players in the mix include Bryan Meehan on many instruments, Steve Hanks, Mike Hinchy and saxophonist Ed Hansom, the man co-ordinating this education series in ensemble playing live.
Limerick Jazz chairperson John Daly reminds us that “music students at our improvisation workshops are people who can play an instrument and many have been tipping around for years playing music. So standards are high. The improvisation sessions are dedicated to learning how to play jazz live in a group, with various groups.”
Mick and Valerie Dolan row in with festivities by laying on finger food for audience and participants alike. See y’all then, folks for a modest fiver.
