Thief not getting the message

A MAN who “doesn’t seem to be getting the message” has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing a XBox from Tesco, Dooradoyle on October 4 last.
Judge Eugene O’Kelly said that while Patrick Kinane admitted his guilt at the earliest opportunity, the goods had not been recovered. This, along with his “appalling record” and the fact that he “does not seem to be getting the message” about stealing, left him with no option but to impose a prison sentence.
The defendant’s previous convictions included sentences for thefts, burglaries and the unlawful taking of a car and he was currently serving a term in prison.

Defending solicitor Ted McCarthy said his client had a serious addiction problem and would steal to feed his drugs habit but he has been drug free since in prison. He had a more serious matter to be disposed of before the Circuit Court at its next session.
Judge O’Kelly sentenced the 25-year-old to six months in prison for the theft.
