Brave Sophie will go to the ball

A SIX-YEAR-OLD Limerick girl who has endured several heart operations will be among Ireland’s eight bravest children who will be honoured at Share a Dream’s National Children of Courage Awards and Dream Ball in Limerick on December 8. The eight recipients were selected from many deserving nominations throughout Ireland, all of whom are facing daily battles against serious illness or disability.

Her dad Liam Mulcahy explained: “She has battled an amazing six heart operations and has come through numerous setbacks such as lung and kidney failure. Sophie was the 30th child to be diagnosed with this syndrome in the world and is currently part of ground breaking research in Manchester.”

The event, due to be held at the Radisson Blu, will be hosted by Miriam O Callaghan and Will Leahy.

“These children are nominated from all over Ireland by parents, doctors, nurses, relatives etc, who all write to us detailing the daily trauma, loneliness and fear which is part of having your child diagnosed with a terrible illness or disability.  It is truly heartbreaking to witness the hardship these families and children experience,” said Shay Kinsella, founder of Share A Dream.
