DO you recall last year’s Make a Move Festival in which one day in the People’s Park, participants produced a ‘Gallery without Walls’? That spark of brilliance will flicker to the “bare hoardings that sweep around the Athlunkard Street and Island Road corner”, reports Aoibhie McCarthy of Limerick City Gallery of Art. “They are to be the object of an imaginative collaboration between the Environment Department of Limerick City Council, Limerick School of Art and Design, Graf Soc, Limerick City Gallery of Art, Make A Move Festival and urban artists.
This Saturday November 3 between 10am and 5pm, the hoardings on the Athlunkard Street corner site will be painted in a day.
“The theme is ‘Limerick Old and New’, with up to five artists working to create images to appeal to the imagination of Limerick. Arising from many discussions and meetings, this next step provides a platform to build on for the Street Artists of Limerick, in a spirit of collaboration and appreciation of the artistic talent in the city,” explains the gallery’s education officer.
