Court warning over offensive clothing

A DISTRICT court judge has warned that he will find people in contempt of court if they wear offensive clothing in his courtroom. Judge Patrick Clyne was sitting in Limerick District Court last week when a young man approached the bench seeking assistance with an application to challenge and appeal a previous court ruling. Judge Clyne noticed that the man’s t-shirt had offensive language printed on the front. “When you return to this court, you are to have that t-shirt turned inside out or covered or I will hold you in contempt of my court.

That type of language is unacceptable. Anyone who comes to court wearing that type of outfit will be held in contempt”,  he added.
The man returned a short time after with his paperwork in order and the offending t-shirt covered by a jacket. He was subsequently granted his application to appeal a minor road traffic parking conviction.
