The Unusual History of Ether

THE Unusual History of Ether is the songwriting partnership of Irish singer-songwriter Rebecca Collins and Danish guitarist Mikkel Ploug. The two met  years ago when they played at Dublin Fringe Festival and immediately forged a musical connection but were too busy  touring with their solo projects. Their collaboration only began in earnest last year.

The Unusual History of Ether is now a four-piece based in Copenhagen. Collins and Ploug’s band will come to Dolan’s Upstairs venue courtesy of Limerick Jazz Society this Friday 2, 8pm.

Adding to the wide range of influences that Collins and Ploug bring to their writing style, bassist Jeppe Skovbakke (of I Got You On Tape and Teitur) and drummer Jeppe Gram completed the band’s line-up during the recording of their first EP.

Entitled ‘Part One’, this record is a startling introduction to their sound, prompting Gaffa Magazine to describe it as “heartbreakingly beautiful”.

“Exploring the philosophical aspects of human life and the natural world with a style that manages to be both cinematic and pop, ‘Part One’ boldly marks the first chapter of The Unusual History of Ether,” comments their host in Limerick, John Daly of the jazz society.
