LIMERICK County Senior Hurling champions Kilmallock will this Sunday host Thurles Sarsfields in the Munster Club Championship. (Throw in, in Kilmallock is at 2pm)
The two sides met on November 14, 2010 in the same competition. Sarsfields won on that occasion by 2-10 to 0-11 courtesy of goals by Lar Corbett and sub Michael O’Brien.
Tony Considine’s men will be looking to avenge that defeat this weekend and with home advantage, hopes are high.
The last home victory by a Limerick Club Senior Hurling champion came in 2008 courtesy of Adare’s 1-11 to 0-10 victory over Toomevara.
Since 2008, the Tipperary Club Senior Hurling champions have won only one out of their five games played with Thurles Sarsfields, victory over Kilmallock in 2010 being the only success. The winners of this Sunday 28’s tie will play Sarsfields (Cork) in the Munster Club Semi-Final on Sunday November 11 at a Tipperary or Cork venue.
Meanwhile, Limerick’s Ballybrown take on Ballinhassig of Cork on Monday 29 at 2pm in Pairc Ui Rinn, in the Munster Club Intermediate Championship. The Limerick Intermediate Hurling champions of the last three years have won six of the seven matches played in the Munster Club Intermediate Hurling Championship. Should Ballybrown win, they will face Ballyduff of Kerry in the semi final at a Limerick venue on November 4.
