BACK on tour with an album titled ‘Long Wave’, Scullion heads for Belltable, Limerick on Saturday October 27. This legendary band was a defining force in Irish creativity and musicianship in the 1980s, mixing their songs with social and emotional commentary. The threesome’s harmonies and lyrics are underpinned by multi-instrumental genius and mature reflection. Led by Sonny Condell, Scullion has recorded a collection of songs ‘Long Wave’, their first of new works in at least two decades. It follows on from two well received compilation albums.
Sleeve notes indicate a new version of King’s ‘Fear’ and an instrumental by Robbie Overson. Have no fear that the ‘Long Wave’ concert is dedicated only to recent material as a course back through favourites is promised.
Scullion today is Sonny Condell, Robbie Overson and Philip King. Scullion of yore held Condell, King, Greg Boland and Jimmy O’Brien Moran, he leaving after the first album. Overson relaced guitarist Boland as far back as 1987.
We are told that they “remain true to their eclectic musical roots. They are nourished by tradition, the translate and deconstruct it, and transmit an individual musical experience for capacity audiences”.
Book at www.belltable.ie and at 69 O’Connell Street.
