LIMERICK Jazz Society struck all the right chords with its 30th anniversary jazz festival in September. The society is back in business again with a truncated season, platforming two gigs only outside the constant run of rhythm and swing that informed the festival. So mark your dance card for Wednesday October 31 in Dolan’s Upstairs venue, 9pm band, Mick Coady’s Synergy.
This five piece features David Binney, US, on alto sax; the UK’s John Arcoleo on tenor sax; fellow Briton’s Ivo Neame on Piano and James Madden on drums and Irish man Mick Coady himself on bass.
The October 31 concert will flesh out the mid-term break nicely with the album launch, ‘Nine Tales of the Pendulum’. Synergy is a young, driven band for whom Binney composes as well as plays, as does Coady. Look forward to “rich harmony and angular melodies”, with traces of rock, folk and Brazilian music forms.
