THE Irish Chamber Orchestra’s Autumn tour makes play for its Limerick fanbase this Thursday 18 at UCH, 8pm. Led by Katherine Hunka, we are promised “a rich and diverse programme’ under the banner of Minimalism and Melody.
Hunka is a former member of The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. She has toured extensively with celebrated artists such as Murray Perriah and Joshua Bell and shared the orchestra stage with many greats – guest musicians and guest conductors and our indigenous talent.
“With the ICO, she has championed the music of Irish composers and over the years has premièred new works by Bill Whelan, John Kinsella, Míchael Ó Súilleabháin and Elaine Agnew,” the ICO’s Charlotte Eglington reminds us.
No surprise then to find the Kinsale born Linda Buckly’s composition ‘Fall Approaches’ selected as timely. It will feature along with Philipp Glass’ ‘Symphony No. 3’, Schubert’s ‘Rondo in A for Violin and Strings’ and Dvorak’s ‘Serenade Op. 22’.
Tel. box office at the concert hall on 061-331549.
