Further suspicious approaches made to children

FURTHER abduction attempts have been made to young children in Limerick. In the wake of a number of suspicious approaches made in recent weeks to young school children, Gardai are again investigating an approach to a young girl by a man who was travelling in a red van. Sgt Brian Broderick told the Limerick Post that, “this particular incident took place at approximately 8.40am on Wednesday October 10 last when young girl was walking along Cathedral Place when a man who was driving a red van spoke to her and told her that her mum had asked him to take her to school.”

In this case however, Sgt Broderick added that the “young girl knew that this was not correct and she walked away towards school where she met a Garda outside the school and reported the matter.”

Gardaí from Henry Street have examined some footage from the area and can confirm the presence of the red van on Cathedral Place and other sources of CCTV are being examined with a view to identifying the vehicle involved.

“We would appeal to the driver of this van to come forward to assist in our investigations. Gardaí from Henry Street are investigating this incident and anyone with information is asked to contact then at 061 212400 or any Garda station.
