FOR October, Lunchtime Theatre at Savoy Hotel is one of various host organs for Limerick Unfringed Festival, October 16-28. The producers are set to present three shows from Dublin’s Absolut Fringe Festival as part of Limerick’s ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ programme: ‘Bandit’ on Thursday 18, Friday 19 at 1pm; ‘Payback’ on Thursday 25, Friday 26 at 1pm and ‘The Wheelchair on My Face’ on Thursday 25, Friday 26 at 6.30pm.
For readers who have not sampled Savoy Lunchtime Theatre so far, your €10 ticket secures the show, the soup and sandwiches. The place packs out on a monthly basis, each audience seated and served before the gig starts at 1.05pm.
The teatime performance, note 6.30pm for October dates, offers wine and nibbles for evening fare. Teatime’s first show in September, ‘Marilyn Monroe Airlines’, was pitch perfect for the slot.
Speaking from the launch in Belltable of Unfringed 2012, Lunchtime Theatre co-producer Maeve McGrath expressed her delight at linking in with “three exceptional shows for the theatre space at Savoy Hotel”.
‘Bandit’ is a one man show performed by Brian O’Riordan. Home after a six year disappearance to face his past, the bandit decides to run the Dublin City Marathon
Moving on to Thursday 25 and Friday 26 at 1pm in the hotel, ‘Payback’ is written and performed by Marion O’Dwyer and Maria McDermottroe. The teaser is:
“Welcome to the invisible world of the middle-aged woman! Did you ever want to get your own back? Kitty and Mary do. Mary and Kitty have a plan. For…Payback!”
On to close the three works with Teatime Theatre on Thursday 25 and Friday 26, ‘The Wheelchair on my Face’, written and performed by Sonya Kelly, took The Scotsman Fringe First Award this year in Edinburgh. Directed by Gina Moxley, this comedy centres on a shortsighted 7-year-old who gets glasses.
