Ulster Bank League Weekend Previews 6/10/12

-

ITโ€™S week two of the Ulster Bank League.  All Limerick sides are in action once more. Some will be looking to build momentum after a good opening round, while others will be looking for that all important first win.

Saturday October 6
Ulster Bank League Division 1A:
Clontarf v Garryowen,
Castle Avenue, 2.30pm
THE light bluesโ€™ impressive week one win over Dolphin has set the Dooradoyle side up nicely for a trip to Clontarf. If the back row of Oโ€™Mahony, Buckley and Anderson can be kept intact, Garryowen have a real chance of two from two. โ€˜Tarf only just lost out to Cork Con last week so this will be a close affair.
Verdict: โ€˜Tarf to win battle for Turf.

U.L. Bohemian v Cork Constitution, Thomond Park, 2.30pm
IF anyone at UL Bohemians thought that Division 1A was going to be easy, they know now that it is anything but. A good losing bonus point away to champions St Maryโ€™s last weekend is quickly followed by a home tie against Cork Con. Rob Penneyโ€™s pencil will have a big say in this game. Those who donโ€™t feature in the Aviva will feature here.
Verdict: Penney dropping to help Con more

Young Munster v St. Maryโ€™s College, Clifford Park, 2.30pm
YOUNG Munsterโ€™s impressive firsts and seconds win over Shannon last weekend really highlighted the strength of squad at Mike Prendergastโ€™s disposal. The โ€˜Cookiesโ€™ will be looking to this game as a gauge of how close they are to last seasonโ€™s champions.
Verdict: Home win for champions elect?

Sunday October 7
Lansdowne v Shannon,
Aviva Stadium, 2.30pm
SHANNON will be looking to bounce back from their 36-3 loss last weekend to rivals Young Munsterโ€™s. Stephen Keogh will know all about Lansdowne, having played there and any inside information will be needed.
Verdict: Lansdowne to win hands down.

Saturday October 6
Division 1B:
U.C.D. v Bruff,
Belfield, 2.30pm
BRUFF kicked off their season in style last weekend with a 25-5 win over Ballymena. The men from County Limerick travel to UCD this weekend which will be a real contender this season in Division 1B following two successive under 21 crowns. If Bruff are to challenge this season, wins in the capital will be vital.
Verdict: Students to pass this exam.

Division 2A:
Cashel v Old Crescent,
Cashel, 2.30pm
OLD Crescentโ€™s win over Queens was a great start to the season. Cashel however will be a different story. Cashel took first blood in the Munster Senior Cup, so Crescent will be hard pressed to win this time.
Verdict: Crescent to stumble on rock of Cashel

Division 2B:
Thomond v NUIM Barnhall,
Fitzgerald Park, 2.30pm
THOMONDโ€™S narrow loss to Sundayโ€™s Well last weekend will no doubt have given some confidence to the newly assembled backroom team. NUIM Barnhall will not be looking forward to this away trip having lost to Naas in week one.
Verdict: Thomond should win in โ€˜Barnโ€™ storming performance.
