The banjo pickin’ bluegrass of Bruff

BRUFF rocks out to the banjo and strings of bluegrass music with a three day festival opening there this Friday 5. According to Leo Hayes, an accomplished local musician, all events are free, all performances are bluegrass only and everybody is welcome. “Bruff Bluegrass kicks off on Friday with music in all the pubs and the Morning Star Rose competition,” we hear. “With everything from Buckaroo Donkey races, pig roasts, music morning, noon and night and picking sessions, this fourth year’s festival takes a giant leap to establish Bruff Bluegrass Festival as the best of its type”.

The inaugural Long Boat Memorial 10km race on Sunday 7 takes place around midday but until then, catch music from any number of bands in three bars: Dave Clarke’s, Derry O’Meara’s and Jack Clancy’s.
Check out the bluegrass/ Cajun tunes and songs by Tin Box Company, Knotty Pine String Band, Woodbine, Blackhill Road Gang, Bending the Strings, The Down and Outs, and more.
