Adare, chasing their sixth title and first since 2009, will be slight underdogs for this clash based on Kilmallock’s impressive semi final victory over reigning champions Na Piarsaigh. The green and whites are looking for title number 10, having last lifted the Daly Cup back in 2010.
Ahead of this weekend’s game, both captains are relishing the encounter which should be an exhibition of fast and hard hurling.
“On Sunday please God we will look back on the defeat to Ahane at the Gaelic Grounds in the group stage and say that was the making of the year. There was a lot of hurt in the team after the defeat to Patrickswell last year and hopefully we can right that on Sunday.” commented Paudie O’Brien of Kilmallock.
Adare captain Paul Keane added, “We are looking forward to the game as the tough work is now done. We have three or four fellas who are playing their first final so should be a good experience for them. We have improved round by round and hopefully we are still improving.”
Indeed Adare have improved. The village side won one, lost one and drew one in the group stages before claiming the scalps of Patrickswell and Garryspillane. Favourites Kilmallock will be buoyed by the wins over Croom and Na Piarsaigh. However this game is going to be a lot closer than some GAA fans are anticipating.
