THE ADAPT service for women experiencing domestic abuse and their children has developed its own website. www.adaptservices.ie opens further opportunities for women to find out what help is available. “The site is something women may access at work when they may not have access to the internet elsewhere,” a spokesperson for ADAPT Domestic Services Abuse said. As well as information about the refuge, counselling and outreach services the site debunks some of the myths that may be stopping women asking for help.
“There are pictures of the self-contained apartments in the refuge so that women can have a look at them. Some women think of the refuge as being like a workhouse, which it isn’t, and we have beautifully gardens and a well stocked playroom. It also gives details about our outreach services in Newcastlewest, Moyross and Kilmallock. A lot of women think they have to come and live in the refuge to avail of the services, which is not the case,” the spokeswoman said.
Apart from giving information about the wide range of confidential services available for women and their children, the new site gives details of opportunities for survivors of domestic abuse as well as details of training available for professionals and volunteers.
The agency plans to officially launch the website to coincide with International women’s Day but it is already up and running and accessible.
