Limerick FC’s long awaited return to the Premier Division of the Airtricity League is now just four games away, after they bounced back with a comprehensive defeat of Mervue United in Jackman Park last weekend.
Having lost to their provincial rivals Waterford United for the fourth time this season two weeks ago, Pat Scully’s men made easy work of the 10 man Galway side to get back to winning ways.
In doing so, they maintained their three point lead over Longford Town at the top of the table, while Waterford United sit a point further back in third.
With just four games to go in the league season, Limerick are now in pole position to return to the top tier in Irish football for the first time since 1994.
This Friday Pat Scully’s side travel to face SD Galway, knowing that three points could leave them just one win away from promotion, with second place Longford taking on third place Waterford at the Regional Sports Centre.
But Scully’s men have their sights firmly set on taking the grand prize – the league trophy. And with a potential title showdown against Longford on October 6 looming, three points this weekend and a draw between their league rivals in Waterford could prove vital come the end of the season.
