Costumed tours and opera

THE Hunt Museum is looking for expressions of interest from “creative and enthusiastic individuals” interested in being part of its new pool of facilitators – artists/ instructors. There is an exciting programme of adult and children’s art activities, workshops and courses to staff.

Culture Night at Hunt Museum is galvanised by opera recitals with four singers groomed by Olive Cowpar taking place on the half-hour after 5pm, Friday 21, over the evening. University Concert Hall is partner to this opera night which is free to all.
The annual Polish Arts Festival has moved from No. 2 Pery Square to inhabit various corners of the museum, and there’s an invitation to “discover the museum’s secrets by night through Gallery Tours, including a costumed tour”.
Look forward to Arts and Crafts sessions for all ages running from 5pm to 9pm on Friday 21, music performance by CoMA Limerick and some art demonstrations.

“A BRILLIANT initiative,” is how Ilovelimerick.com’s Richard Lynch describes Roches Street Art Festival, launched by him on Monday 10 last in Condell’s Office Centre. “It’s about encouraging creativity, raising funds for charity and teaching people how to work best as a community. This year the charity beneficiaries are Milford Hospice and Headway, which helps people who are affected by acquired brain injury.
“This year I helped fundraise for and publicise the Headway ball, I think the work this charity does is amazing.  Art is a major party of therapy at Headway and artists there are taking part in the festival with works for sale”.
Richard is also an old friend of Roches Street’s: “I have worked with the festival  for the last three years, having photographed and documented it. I really am honoured to be asked to launch it officially this year”.
According to committee stalwart Hugh Lilburn,  60 artists are taking part, featuring at least 160 exhibits. 25 per cent of sale proceeds will be divided evenly between the charities, other than 100 per cent of sale proceeds from donated works by Padraig O’Callaghan, Tom Greaney and Paul Weeraskera’s portrait of Paul O’Connell with Mayor Brian Long.
Triumph Inspiration Awards 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from the Fashion department of LSAD will showcase their winning garments in the traders’ shops also.
Take your pick of photographs, oils, watercolours, stained glass, etchings and acrylics showing in 30 premises until September 22.
