LIMERICK Jazz Festival, celebrating 30 years in Limerick this September 28-30, has booked major headline acts for its packed few days. Chalk in Dolan’s Warehouse for Saturday September 29 for a late gig with UK singer Liane Carroll, whose live performances, TV shows and discography have made her an international star on the jazz circuit.
“She started playing piano at the age of three, under the tutorage of concert pianist Phyllis Catling. Soon she developed a deep passion for everything jazz, soul and beyond,” reports John Daly, chairman of Limerick Jazz Festival.
Her first solo album ‘Billy No Mates’ is her biggest selling to date and, as well as being critically acclaimed, went on to win her two BBC Jazz Awards in 2005 – “She is the only musician ever to have picked up two of these awards in the same year”.
Liane Carroll went on to release ‘Standard Issue,’ with Splash Point label, featuring her trio and guests Ian Shaw and Bobby Wellins, tenor saxophonist. It would also prove a hit with the critics and in 2006, enabled her to pick up the Marston Pedigree Jazz Award. In May this year she picked up the award for ‘Best female jazz vocalist’ at the first ever Ronnie Scotts Jazz Awards, and in June her trio makes a headline appearance at Glastonbury Festival, which went out live to over 300,000 listeners on BBC Radio 3.
The Liane Carroll Trio for Limerick is comprised of Liane (vocals/ piano), Roger Carey (electric bass) and Mark Fletcher (drums). For Dolan’s Warehouse, doors open 10.30pm on Saturday 29 for this sought-after ticket.
