Finn Folk & Baroque
THE Irish Chamber Orchestra celebrates European Year for Active Ageing 2012 and solidarity between generations with Clúid through a unique concert. Taking place in UCH on Thursday September 27, 8pm, the orchestra will present a concert ‘Finn Folk & Baroque’, directed by the “firebrand” Pekka Kuusisto who has an established bond with the Irish Chamber Orchestra.
An eclectic programme features Rautavaara’s Fiddlers interspersed with original 17th century Finnish tunes by Samuel Rinda-Nickola alongside classic works by Bach and Bartók. Bach’s Violin Concerto No 2 in E, BWV 1042, leaps to life with delightful interplay between violin and harmonium played by Milla Viljamaa. ICO leader, Katherine Hunka joins Pekka for Bach’s irresistible Concerto for Two Violins in D minor BWV 1043. Bartók’s Divertimento, with its gypsy rhythms, is infused with Kuusisto’s quirky style.
Children from the ICO’s Sing Out with Strings orchestra will sing and play at the concert interval. Together these budding young musicians will perform a piece with members of the ICO bridging the generation gap and providing a delightful treat for all attending. Book at ww.uch.ie and 061-331549.
