AFTER over 30 years of service in the Local Government sector in Limerick, tributes have been paid to Gerry Behan who officially retired as Limerick County manager last Friday.
Colleagues and friends as well as the newly appointed Limerick City and County manager, Conn Murray, joined Mr. Behan at a retirement function in Dooradoyle.
Mr. Behan, who is a native of Abbeydorney in County Kerry took up employment with Limerick County Council as a senior staff officer in the planning section in 1976.
During his career he held the position of director of services in the environment and community and enterprise sections. He was also CEO of the Limerick County Enterprise Board from 1993 to 1999. Mr. Behan was appointed Limerick County manager in April 2012 following the retirement of Edward Gleeson.
He is succeeded by Limerick City and County Manager, Conn Murray.
In thanking Colleagues and friends Mr. Behan said, “It has been a great honour for me to have been employed by Limerick County Council for more than three decades. Some great things have been achieved during this time that I attribute to the positive working relationship between Council staff and Councillors, both past and present. The Local Government sector in Limerick is moving into a new and exciting era of change, one that will benefit people throughout Limerick City and County for many years to come.”
