Thomond Swim set for September 1st

-

LIMERICK’S top open water swimmers will be in action on the River Shannon on Saturday, September 1st for the 2012 Thomond Swim. A strong contingent from Limerick Masters Swimming Club will take on one of the toughest challenges of their annual calendar and will be joined by other swimmers from Dublin, Cork and Galway.

Local swimmer Chris Bryan, who was the first Irish open water swimmer to race in an open water swimming event for Ireland at a World Championships will also take part.
Members of the public are invited to support the swim which takes place at 7pm on September 1st and will be officially launched by Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Gerry McLoughlin.
Thomond Swim PRO John Garrett said the event continues to grow in size after being revived in 2007 after a break of 21 years.
“It is one of our great annual sporting spectacles and building on the success of last year’s swim, the 2012 event will also be open to swimmers in wetsuits, something we believe will encourage more swimmers to take part.”
