Campaigners against the household tax have said that they will provide legal advice and support for Limerick householders taken to court for non-payment. A spokesperson for the Campaign has also criticised attempts by the Local Government Management Agency to “bully people into paying the household tax by threatening legal action.” “The statement by Paul McSweeney of the LGMA on RTE’s ‘Morning Ireland’ that non-payers will be taken to court will be seen as an upping of the ante in the battle on this unwanted tax,” said Cian Prendiville, spokesperson for the Campaign Against Household and Water Taxes.
“Figures being quoted by the LGMA this morning continue to downplay the extent of the boycott of this tax,” continued Mr. Prendiville.
“It’s clear from figures released by the LGMA themselves this week that the vast majority of the latest registrations are from multiple property owners. In terms of householders, almost half of all those eligible to register have still not done so.”
The boycott of the household tax remains strong,” concluded Mr Prendiville who said that the campaign will provide legal advice and support for anyone taken to court.
