New housing for single middle-aged in Croom

A Limerick housing project that will assist single,, middle-aged people’s housing needs, has received an allocation of €800,000 from the Minster for Housing and Planning, Jan O’Sullivan.
Paying tribute to the work of Croom Housing Association, the Minister said its  work in Phase 2 of the Towerfield Development is designed to assist middle-aged people who are single, often through the breakdown of a long-term relationship.

“This is a group of people whose needs often slip through the system and I want to pay particular tribute to Croom Housing Association for having the vision to recognise and respond to a very pressing need.”
Acknowledging the “tremendous vision” of Croom Housing Association since it was established in 1999, the Minister said its first scheme provided 17 two-bed houses specifically for elderly people.
“This has made a huge difference to the lives of local residents and allows elderly people to remain in the heart of the community they love and to continue to contribute to the vibrancy of the community – it also caters for a significant number of returning emigrants.”
The role of Limerick County Council in backing the development was also acknowledged.
Stressing the key input that voluntary and co-operative housing associations will play in social housing provision in the coming years, Minister O’Sullivan said the sector will undergo significant change to meet changing circumstances.
“I’m confident, however, that the sector will rise to those challenges and continue to develop and manage much needed developments such as Towerfield Development in Croom.”
